"I wish I didn't have so much work to do today" I muttered to myself while scrubbing the countertops. I sighed.
Lola looked up from her lunch.
"You get what you get and you don't throw a fit, Mommy" she said with a solemn look upon her face.
"Touche'" I thought, as I smiled and went about my cleaning.
Christmas was great for the kids. Thanks to grandparents, friends, and other relatives, the tree was packed with pretty boxes. The kids circled around them for days ahead of time, hardly able to keep themselves back from ripping little holes in the paper. The night before Christmas we all went to the church service, then came home to pick out cookies for Santa. No, we didn't make cookies for Santa this year, as we had enough Christmas treats and cookies from our friends to make us all as fat as Santa. Needless to say, we had plenty to spare. Lola chose three cookies, two peanuts, and a gumdrop, which Santa was to wash down with a sparkly purple cup filled with milk. She also made sure to leave carrots and lettuce and a big bowl of water out for the reindeer. Then, just to be extra creative, Lola made herself a lovely robot costume.

What joy it was to watch Lola go to bed that night (without the robot costume), truly believing that Santa was going to come and visit our house! She didn't even think about trying to stay up late...after all, the books we had read said that he wouldn't come if she was still awake! The kids actually slept in until the near record of 7:30 am. This was good, because at about 6:30 I sat up with a bolt!
"Wil! Did Santa remember to eat the cookies and drink the milk?"
"Um, no, I, well.....I guess it will be cookies for breakfast, but I'm not drinking that milk!"
We had bought Rowan one of those jeep rigs that the kids can actually drive, and carefully set it up around the corner on the way to the tree so that he wouldn't see it until the last minute. He was so excited that we couldn't get him out of the truck to open any more gifts for about 15 minutes! When he did though, he was thrilled to find lots more trucks waiting for him! Santa had filled the stockings with this and that, and we really enjoyed watching the kids open their goodies. The rest of the day was very relaxed, and we just hung out and played with new toys. I had to work the next day, of course, so our break was short, but very nice.

Wil and I actually made it up past midnight on New Year's Eve, and watched the ball drop before crawling into bed. I think this is the first time we have lasted that long in 3 years!
We had a friend from vet school come and stay with us this weekend, and it was so much fun! We shopped, and ate, and shopped and ate some more, and then drank wine. Ahhh, what a relaxing weekend. I bought the kids each a little dollar store item on one of our little shopping adventures, and I really thought Rowan would love the whoopie cushion...boy was I wrong!
Rowan learned a new word this weekend too. "Rowan, say frog!" (DISCLAIMER!!! Frog sounds like...well, lets just say if you are easily offended, you probably shouldn't watch! Don't know why you would be on my blog though if that is the case....)
Well, that is about it for us lately. It has been blissfully boring around here lately. One of our hens hid a nest in the henhouse, and much to the delight of the kids, we have five tiny fuzzy little chickies to enjoy. You know, life is pretty sweet!
